World Telecommunications and Information Society Day 2017

Together with the Ministry of Transport and Communications and other stakeholders we celebrated World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD) on May 20th 2017 in the village of Masunga. The day was commemorated under the theme “Big Data, for Big Impact” which loosely translated seeks to use the power of technology to make a positive change and a lasting improvement in terms of the country’s development.

The commemoration held at Masunga Senior Secondary School was officiated by the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr. Kitso Mokaila and was attended by dignitaries from both the private and public sector. Honourable Minister Mr. Mokaila in his keynote speech highlighted the importance of information communication technologies (ICT) in how they are intelligent and when used accordingly they can be very beneficial to the economic development of the country.

The buildup leading to the main event saw a variety of ICT related activities held such as Girls in ICT a project meant to empower girls and educate them on career prospects in the ICT industry and the unveiling of two ICT Labs in Masunga by the honourable Minister Mr. Kitso Mokaila.

For our part as Botswana Couriers & Logistics, we pledged transportation services for the required ICT infrastructure required to make the event and its projects a success. Further to that the company was present at the exhibition consisting of both private companies and government entities interacting with students of Masunga Senior Secondary School and the community of Masunga.
