Botswana Couriers on Insurance

We often take things for granted, that when we courier goods they are safe and will arrive in the same condition. The goods that are couriered are quite valuable items for businesses and individuals. Even whilst all measures are taken by courier companies to ensure that goods are safe, there are always risks associated with unexpected circumstances. No one plans for accidents, hi-jackings and the likes – they just happen. Therefore it is important to make sure these assets are protected from the unforeseen. So how can one protect themselves from these situations?

Says Pelonomi Kgosietsile, Marketing Manager at Botswana Couriers; “Courier companies – Botswana Couriers included, offer insurance cover that covers for theft, loss and/or damage which may be caused by accidents or otherwise whilst the goods are in transit.” Just like any other insurance offering, this cover allows clients to transfer the risks associated with couriering goods to the insurer. The clients are given the opportunity for reimbursement or financial protection against possible losses or damages through the insurance cover.

The insurance is calculated based on 3% of the value of the consignment. “For example, if a client is shipping a LCD TV of a certain value, they can insure against that value and if anything happens to the goods they will be repaired or replaced or even compensated for the full amount.”

Kgosietsile also noted that it was unfortunate that some clients choose not to take the insurance, whilst others are unaware of the availability of this service, and also do not read the terms and conditions of the agreement to courier goods on their behalf. “As a result if something unfortunate were to happen to the goods in transit, they come to us expecting compensation to the full value of the goods. Unfortunately, we can only provide minimal compensation which most of the time does not match the value of the goods that were being shipped,” she said.

“We always encourage our clients to insure their goods in transit because you never know when the unexpected will occur. Insurance is no longer a “nice to have” but, a necessity to ensure that even if loss, damage or theft was to occur to your goods in transit, Botswana Couriers would replace, repair or refund the value of the goods. It would be as if nothing happened in the first place – giving you peace of mind.”
